You're invited!
Come join our community of inspired educators and community members as we partner to investigate what it means to embrace diverse student experiences, tailor instruction to reflect cultural landscapes, incorporate families and communities, and evolve as a culturally responsive educational community.
WE ARE REACHINGCulturally responsive educators are lifelong learners, striving to better meet the needs of all students by constantly growing and deepening their work, turning development into practice. |
WE ARE REFLECTINGWe look back in order to move forward, and know that creating a rigorous, relevant environment for every student means intentional reflection and application of skills. |
WE ARE RESPONDINGOur work as educators necessitates a responsive mindset and unwavering commitment to improving outcomes for all learners, and so we implement targeted, responsive strategies daily. |
The 2019 Equity Conference celebrates the work of culturally responsive educators in Albemarle County Public Schools.
We will honor this year's cohort of CRT Certification honorees, as well as feature presentations, a gallery walk, opportunities for connection, and a keynote address.

WE AREReaching
With support from the Office of Community Engagement, the district's Diversity Resource Team, building-based Equity Teams, and CRT certified teacher-leaders, we are leading the charge to bring Culturally Responsive Teaching strategies and understanding to every school, classroom, and child in our community. We host bi-annual CRT professional training and offer certification and micro-credentials in CRT, as well as monthly district-wide development.

WE AREReflecting
The backbone of Culturally Responsive Teaching is reflection and the willingness, desire, and drive to explore the personal in order to improve the professional. We are committed to proactively interrupting the reproductive practices that negatively impact vulnerable and marginalized students, which means we examine, unpack, and dismantle the biases, excuses, and deficit-mindsets which exist within our community in order to positively impact student outcomes.

WE AREResponding
Diversity Resource Teachers show up: We lead school-wide Equity Teams, PD sessions, and even difficult conversations. We stand at the forefront of the work, and take primary responsibility for providing culturally responsive workshops, supporting equity and diversity needs across our district. Our work is demonstrably changing results for our students, their families, and the broader community, and we know how to keep the work front and center.
